The Hammer Has Fallen...

It was announced yesterday that The Company will be pulling its primary operations out of Tampa by the end of 1st quarter 2005.

For me and 1100 others this means that we'll be unemployed by the end of March. Suck. I've been with The Company for 8 1/2 years, and haven't had to look for a job since I graduated from college and moved to Tampa. This will be the first time I've ever left a job involuntarily.

It'll be interesting to see how the social dynamic in the work environment changes now that everyone knows their days are numbered. Stay tuned!

Yeah... that does indeed suck.

But look on the bright side, at least you have many months notice. I'm rather impressed with your company being that upfront with its employees and giving them time to prepare. But yup, I would imagine that the dynamics will change there.

Wishing you the best in your search!

Excuse me...
What... ?? Did you just say something about social engineering?
Oh, sorry, you said social dynamic.
Well if you ever need to have some Creative Genetic Engineering done to.. uh, for someone at a cheap price...
What's that? You were talking about social dynamics?
Why yes, Creative Genetic Engineering can introduce quite an interesting social dynamic at a workplace.
Don't walk away looking like that... Here take my card and call me... I'm sure it will make you feel better at work.

Re: Excuse me...
You know, I was just thinking about how growing an additional arm might give me a breakthrough advantage in today's competitive IT job market, allowing me to better maximize my capabilities and effectively manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

Either that or I could use it to touch myself without having to put down the PS2 controller. That'd be cool too.

It's my understanding that working generates money which somehow has something to do being sheltered, fed and having neat toys. I think that's about how it works anyways. So it's scary when there's no work because that might mean no more toys (oh and being hungry and wet). Still, I wouldn't be worried if I were you. You have a monsterous amount of experience. Hey, if I can some how scrounge up job after job with my *6 months here, 6 months there* resume, then I *know* you can get a job. Just don't fucking leave Florida to do it. I am *really* looking forward to the next 4 years (at least!) of being close by.

We had yet another meeting yesterday where we got some further info regarding what job placement resources will be made available to us, and it's comforting. I know it's like saying that they're beheading us with the nice soft nerf sword, but it really does seem as though they're going out of their way to make it as painless as possible.

The Smoosh was talking last night, and redheadlass mentioned that with you back in town and tacit not leaving she no longer feels any particular pull to leave Tampa. I have to agree. However, we really must all hang out more! You guys are worth putting up with the heat for.
