Sad Gir

OK is *NOT* okay!

If things had gone according to schedule I'd be home now, snuggled in bed with my smooshlings and either drifting off to sleep or having awesome sex. Instead, I'm 1280 miles away from them, alone in a hotel room in Tulsa, OK. Still.

Here's the very short version, minus most of the grief and hassle: After a week that's been enormously productive from a work standpoint and utterly craptastic from a personal standpoint, the sudden ice storm shut down the airport, canceling my flight back, my backup flight, and my secondary backup flight. I was supposed to have landed in Tampa just before midnight on Friday night. Now I'll be lucky if I get back Sunday night, and it's not outside of the realm of possibility that I might not get home until as late as Tuesday.

This morning I got to scrape the ice off of a car's windows for the first time since I started driving. Can't say I've missed that experience. The roads are nightmarish and littered with wrecked vehicles. I actually got to watch an accident happen in front of me, where a car lost control, spun out across 3 lanes, and slammed into a sign on the side of the road.

The funny thing (for some definition of "funny") is that 24 hours ago I was walking around outside in jeans and a short-sleeved t-shirt, and wasn't the least bit chilly.

I miss my sweeties more than I can begin to express. This is the longest that Kim and I have been apart since we both moved to Tampa in '94. I miss my friends. I miss APAR, Trogdor, & Reina. I miss home. A five day trip was really pushing my limits as far as being away from the people who are important to me. I don't know how to even begin dealing with this.

Watching TV

Hey, look at that!

The storm made CNN!

Oh well. At least now if work decides to give me any crap about extra hotel fees, etc. (which they won't) I can point out that the dateline of the article is the same as the departure point on my travel itinerary.
