Singularity Summit at Stanford

On May 13th, Stanford University hosted The Singularity Summit, which featured most of the "heavy hitters" in singularity/transhumanist/extropian circles- Eric Drexler, Ray Kurzweil, Nick Bostrom, Max Moore, Eliezer Yudkowsky, etc.

Here's the nifty part- all of the major presentations are available as .mp3s here, and the visuals (mostly PowerPoint presentations) are available as well. I've downloaded the whole thing, so if you're interested and happen to run into me, let me know. The whole shebang is 729 MB uncompressed (including videos), so I can throw it onto a keychain drive or zip it onto a CD. I've only just started listening to it, and it's both entertaining and very very interesting.

Live in fear...

disasterwhore's userpic (by way of the_xtina):

*shudder* Can you imagine how much more frightening it would be if McDonald's had decided to go creepy with their mascot instead of Burger King? There's a thought that'll cause nightmares!

Mad Scientist

My secret lab must have this!!!

You know those secret passages, sliding walls, and rotating fireplaces that you see in mad scientists' secret lairs in cheesy movies?

You can actually get them for your home.

I cannot begin to express how very cool this is. Their designs are extraordinarily creative and flexible, and I believe that they do custom designs as well. It truly boggles the mind.

Now all I need is an enormous pile of cash and a volcano fortress!! MUAHAHAHA!!!
