(no subject)

As always, there's lots going on...

The SpaceShipOne team made their second flight in a week yesterday, claiming the Ansari X Prize and further cementing their collective place in history as the Charles Lindberghs of civilian space flight. The world is changing, folks, and this is an important milestone in our thus-far-much-too-slow transition to a truly space-faring species. It's not unreasonable to expect that most of the people reading this will have the opportunity to travel into space during their lifetime (at a reasonable price, even!). Think about that.

In another milestone, last night we celebrated anklesnake receiving her Alcor bracelet! It was combined with her and Eric (Legolas)'s birthdays, and we all went to the Cheesecake Factory. I ate way too much, though, and feel kinda ooky today.

The Smoosh spent the weekend at zensidhe and redheadlass's place, and had an awesome time. (PSSST! Don't tell them, but femetal and I are really growing quite fond of them. ;-) ) Played Cyberpunk with that whole group on Saturday, slept in on Sunday, did inappropriate things to Kim on Sunday night.

Working backwards, I sacrificed last Friday night to do some side work replacing network switches and routers for a company in Oldsmar. Normally I wouldn't have any interest in doing more work, but I couldn't turn down the money and I generally enjoy doing data closet/server room work. It turned out to be kinda fun, and with Kim's birthday and Necro coming up the extra cash never hurts.

Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia recently stated in a speech that "sexual orgies eliminate social tensions and ought to be encouraged." So much for the Supreme Court being a bunch of stodgy old men!

OK, there's more going on, but I've been procrastinating posting this to the point where I had to change upcoming events to past events and deleting things that no longer seem relevant, so I'll just shut up and post!

Warning- sappy geek rant to follow!

Collapse )I found a great deal on a Belkin Bluetooth GPS unit, and it arrived yesterday. Setting it up turned out to be a good deal less intuitive than I'd expected (Note to Mac users: Belkin's products are good overall, but their Macintosh support is nonexistent!), but after figuring out that it needs to be set up using the Bluetooth Serial Utility (located in /Applications/Utilities) in addition to being paired it was off and running.

Now I just need to find some decent GPS mapping software that's OS X native. My end objective is to be able to verbally ask Gir where we are and have him verbally respond. I love living in a world where that's possible!
