I've hinted at this before, but here's the deal. femetal and I attended the going-out-of-business auction for the St. Pete Beach Arcade (which had been open since the early `60's!!) several weeks ago, and through a combination of underestimating the demand for multi-game machines and a complete neural failure on my part ended up going home empty handed. One item in particular that just hurt to have missed out on was a Terminator 2 arcade machine.
If ever there was an arcade machine that belongs in our home, it's this one (even more so than Ajax). Aside from a full-size endoskeleton (which is waaaaaay out of my price range!) it's the ultimate piece of T2 memorabilia. Besides, it's a kick-ass game!!
Thus the quest began to find a T2 machine that was both in good condition and affordable.
Well, at least in good condition.
With a little bit of patience (and perhaps a willingness to subsist on ramen noodles and dog food for the next 8-10 months), eBay pulled through and I got one! There were others for sale as well, but this one seems to be in the best shape, and actually in better condition than the one at the auction.
It shipped out from Nashville early last week, and I just got a call from the local shipper. It could be in our house possibly as early as tomorrow. *HAPPY DANCE!!!*
Oh, since it's effectively being paid for by my economic stimulus check, I put a funny little write-up about it on howispentmystimulus.com. Check it out and leave a comment about my superhuman powers of fiscal irresponsibility! :-)
I've never been so happy to be a grown-up, and not required to get my parents' permission before making a major purchase. And major thanks to my beloved femetal for not slitting my throat in my sleep at the very idea. You are the coolest wife EVAR!
