On my mind right now...

I must not fear.
Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.
Only I will remain.

I'll bite: what could you possibly be afraid of? (And what hope is there for the rest of us if you fail?) - ZM

It's the Bene Gesserit Litany Against Fear, from Dune. Paul Atreides uses it to remain calm and still while his hand is being tormented and a poison needle (the Gom Jabbar) is being held against his neck. It's a test to see if he can override the natural impulse to pull his hand back (if he did he would've been stuck with the needle and killed instantly).

I've found that it also works if the Gom Jabbar is in your mouth. :-)

"To know a thing well, know its limits. Only when pushed beyond its tolerances will true nature be seen. Do not depend only on theory if your life is at stake."
