10 Best Reasons Gay Marriage is Wrong

Passed on from pwhitfield:

10 Best reasons Gay Marriage is wrong

1. Being gay is not natural. Real Americans always reject unnatural things like eyeglasses, polyester, and air conditioning.

2. Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay, in the same way that hanging around tall people will make you tall.

3. Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior. People may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage contract.

4. Straight marriage has been around a long time and hasn't changed at all; women are still property, blacks still can't marry whites, and divorce is still illegal.

5. Straight marriage will be less meaningful if gay marriage were allowed; the sanctity of Britany Spears' 55-hour just-for-fun marriage would be destroyed.

6. Straight marriages are valid because they produce children. Gay couples, infertile couples, and old people shouldn't be allowed to marry because our orphanages aren't full yet, and the world needs more children.

7. Obviously gay parents will raise gay children, since straight parents only raise straight children.

8. Gay marriage is not supported by religion. In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are imposed on the entire country. That's why we have only one religion in America.

9. Children can never succeed without a male and a female role model at home. That's why we as a society expressly forbid single parents to raise children.

10. Gay marriage will change the foundation of society; we could never adapt to new social norms. Just like we haven't adapted to cars, the service-sector economy, or longer life spans.

Re-post this if you believe love makes a marriage.

Re: YOUR DUMB
This is a joke, right? I'll admit that my ability to detect sarcasm isn't as strong as my ability to dish it out, and I'm genuinely concerned that your comment is serious.

If you are kidding, then I applaud your wit and humbly ask that you identify yourself in future comments.

If you're actually SERIOUS, then my perception of the overall intelligence level of the people who read my LJ has just tanked.

* "Your" is possessive. I don't own a "dumb".
* "You're" is the contraction of "you are". (Points to usericon)
* Not even the letters on the "Caps Lock" key are in all caps. Please follow their fine example. (If you're posting from a Sinclair ZX-80 then I'll grant an exception.)
* Aside from the odd bit of Esperanto, Chinese, Spanish, or 1337 here and there, my journal is written entirely in English. Since you replied in more-or-less English as well, I'll assume that you're able to read it and beseech you to do so. Please re-read the original post in its entirety. Think about it.
* Read my profile. Think about it some more. Consider that I'm a Libertarian, at least half of the people in my current relationship are bi, the majority of my friends are some combination of non-straight and/or poly, and that the polyamory community has a strong vested interest in the legalization of gay marriage.

If after this you still need my actual stance on this issue spelled out for you then I'm here for you. Send e-mail to my gmail account (same name as my LJ name), and I will happily, in a non-public and non-sarcastic manner, go point by point through my post and explain how it's actually a strong statement in favor of gay marriage.

And for the record, my brain capacity is currently worth $1.99 wholesale.

Re: YOUR DUMB
They may be referring to your brain capacity as in "how much you have left that is not in use." That would be a very small quantity indeed. :)

BTW, LOVE the icon.

Re: YOUR DUMB
I once saw a user icon that showed a baby bunny in someone's hand; the caption read "The Cute. It Burns!"

This user icon is only slightly less genius, but has the distinct advantage of being one I wish I'd thought of myself. - ZM

Yeah, isn't it great? :-) I wish I could claim credit for it, but alas it's borrowed.

Brilliant!
I'm going to borrow this and send/post away...I couldn't agree more wholeheartedly with the reasons listed...and could never have put it all so well...

Was Brittany really married a whole 55 hours? I didn't think it lasted even that long...and how about the other thousands of people who have not managed to stay with someone longer than a few years when a lot of gay relationships have gone on longer than most straight marriages...(my parents are an exception to that)...

Oh, the anonymous person who doesn't have the guts to post his/her name is not really worth the time or energy any of us has put into dealing with...he/she is cowardly (no big surprise in todays world) or a complete imbecil to not get the not so subtle implications in the post...although I was initially shocked by the title, I know not to judge anything by it's cover...

OOps, already spent too much energy on that one...

Now that I know your email will add you to my list...:)

Re: Brilliant!
"We're just happy to be doing good works."

Yeah, this whole article really struck a chord for me. I'd like to print it up and give it to my (now former) boss at work. He's a good person, but frighteningly neo-conservative.

By the way, you should have another e-mail address for me as well. It's my old VAX name @tampabay.rr.com. I check the gmail acct about once a day, but usually check the rr.com one several times/day. Feel free to use whichever one you wish.

Re: Brilliant!
wasn't sure if the old one worked...I have Gmail now as well...nerd that I am...

I have already emailed that to several others...

Should have sent one to my ex, but then he may actually try and contact the kids...so will not go there...he seemed to think that painting their nails when they were 2-3 would make them Gay...like it did to my brothers (both with female partners)...

Oh well...
