In 2006, organizers answered the call to hold “Can’t Stop The Serenity” (CSTS) events in 47 cities around the world, raising over $65,000 for the women's rights advocacy group Equality Now by holding screenings of the Joss Whedon film ‘Serenity.’ The goal for 2007 is to hold events in over fifty (50) cities across the globe on or around Saturday, June 23, raising over $100,000 in donations. (From the official CSTS Press Release)

This year’s screening of ‘Serenity’ for Tampa will be held at The Beach Theatre in St. Pete Beach, FL on Sunday, June 24th. Pre-sale tickets will be on sale starting Tuesday, June 12th and will continue until Friday, June 22nd. Tickets will be available at the door starting at 11 AM and show time is at 12:30 PM. Advance tickets will be selling for $10 on the website and at the door, day of show; the price will be $12. Every ticket purchased gives the attendee a raffle ticket for a door prize give-away after the feature. Additional raffle tickets will be available for a $2 donation.

CSTS 2007 has a large list of global sponsors, including Universal Home Entertainment, Dark Horse Comics, BenBella Books, Done the Impossible (DTI), the Bedlam Bards, and The Browncoat Cruise. Our sponsors have all donated wonderful items to each city, including Tampa, to be raffled off as prizes. A limited number of commemorative T-shirts will be available for purchase at the show and we will be taking orders for shirts to be shipped a few weeks after the screening. There will be other goodies also available to all attendees as long as supplies last.

All proceeds from tickets and item purchases go to Equality Now. Equality Now (EN) is a wonderful charity founded in 1992 by Jessica Neuwirth, Navanethem Pillay and Feryal Gharahi to address the gender disparity in the human rights movement. You can read more about EN at http://www.equalitynow.org.
